Introduction

This position will be based in the Saldanha Bay Municipality area in the Western Cape.

Description

The purpose of this position is to maintain plant systems and equipment according to instrumentation and technical requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor and benchmark technology to ensure continuous improvement.
• Install and commission new equipment and systems in line with set standards.
• Perform detailed design, device programming, configuration and calibration on equipment to the set parameters.
• Maintain equipment and systems to optimise performance and availability.
• Inspect / monitor equipment and systems and take appropriate corrective action.
• Assess equipment and recommend for decommissioning and disposal in line with set Company standards.
• Manage and monitor stock levels to ensure availability of critical spares.
• Collect and analyse data on the system and equipment to ensure compliance with standards.
• Maintain records and ensure that they are up-to-date and accurate.
• Identify, plan and execute Control & Instrumentation projects in line with accepted project management principles.
• Consult with production teams on maintenance activities that affect production.
• Support the achievement of engineering availability and production performance levels.
• Ensure that maintenance related information is recorded and reported timeously to the planning office to support the planned maintenance / asset maintenance system.
• Do required fault finding and repairs as needed and assist with needed root cause analysis.

Qualification Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification registered at NQF Level 4, including relevant NATED qualifications such as the N3 Certificate.
• National Diploma S4 Electrical Engineering – Light/ Medium voltage with relevant Industrial Instrumentation subject and Valid Trade Test Certificate; or
• Relevant Trade Test Certificate section 13 Trade Test / Section 26(D) as Instrument Mechanician with N4 – N6
• Valid driver’s Licence code B, EB or C1

Experience and Skills Requirements

• A minimum of 4 - 5 years’ experience as a qualified Instrument Technician
• PLC and SCADA programming experience and development
• Networks and communication experience
• VSD and AS-i installations experience
• Experience in one of the following smart relays: Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider
• Knowledge of belt scale maintenance, actuated control valves, different types of flow meters, different types of level control instruments and density instruments
• Strong field instrumentation background and experience
• English language proficiency
• Time management skills
